Gutters are quite important for protecting your home as they move water away from your home's foundation. This ensures that you don't experience basement flooding and soil erosion. There are many different types of gutters in various styles, sizes, materials etc. Therefore, selecting the correct gutter system can be quite difficult for most people. 

Materials

Now, before you actually buy any guttering, you need to determine the best material that is suitable for your particular needs. 

Vinyl gutters are rot and rust resistant and this makes them quite popular. Also, they are simple to install and cheap. 

Aluminum gutters are also cheap and light. These type of gutters come in custom sizes. 

Copper gutters are typically used in expensive properties and even historic properties. 

Steel gutters are extremely strong and long lasting and they are capable of holding 60% more water in comparison to the typical K style 5 inch guttering. 

Styles

Once you've decided on the type of material that you want to use in your home, you then need to select the best style. 

Half round gutters appear like a round pipe that has been cut in half along the length. In most cases, you can find these gutters in older properties since they work well with their design. Additionally, half round gutters are much easier to maintain and keep clean in comparison to K style guttering. 

K style gutters are very popular in these modern times. They provide a very neat look to your roofing system and they are characterized by flat backs and bottoms. The front looks like crown molding and they are much stronger in comparison to the half round gutters. Their capacity is also more than half round gutters since they can hold twice as much water, even when the widths are the same. 

Down Spouts

There are two typical sizes of down spouts and they are 3x4 and 2x3. If you're looking for a more affordable option, then the 2x3 down spouts are your best bet. They will work well on a small garage or home. On the other hand, the 3x4 down spouts are usually used on larger buildings that have lengthy gutter runs. These type of down spouts enable more water to be drained which is not necessary with small houses.
